The Charlotte & Brian Davis Collection

Select pieces from the Canadian Studio ceramics collection

Welcome to the collection. This website has been created for the enjoyment and education of everyone interested in the history, development and aesthetics of Canadian studio pottery.

Though the collection is not comprehensive it does include pottery from every part of Canada, covers roughly one hundred years, and is large enough to allow comparisons of many different forms, influences, styles, traditions and techniques.

As nearly as possible the work of individual artists has been arranged chronologically so various phases of their work and career can be seen and appreciated. Overall the collection is arranged in alphabetical order. In the case of partnerships the principal potter is listed first and the principal decorator second without any prejudice to their relative talents.

At the end of the website is a section marked UNKNOWN for pottery we have not yet been able to identify. Many of these pieces are unmarked. Some have faint signatures under the glaze or cryptic marks. A few have initials or chop marks unknown to us.

If you made any of these pieces or know who did, or even have a hunch, we would like to hear from you. Help us properly re-associate these pieces with the potters who created them.

Our thanks to Steve Hallman and Patrick McCormack for all their help and expertise in making this website possible.
